Heredia Costa Rica Map

The small country of Costa Rica is a popular tourist destination for many reasons. Costa Rica is one of the most prosperous countries in Central America, located between Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the southeast. It shares a coastline with the Pacific Ocean to the west, and with the Caribbean Sea to the east, which means there is plenty of fishing, scuba diving, and surfing to had. Costa Rica is also big on ecotourism and offers turtle and whale watching. There are also plenty of parks set aside to allow for wildlife and bird watching. Hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking are popular pastimes. The Mayans and Aztecs did not live in the area now known as Costa Rica, so there are no ancient temples or historic sites of that nature. However, one glance at a map of Heredia Costa Rica will show you that there are a few historical buildings from Spanish Colonization times still extant in this particular city, as for example the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and the El Fortín Monument – the last remnant of a Spanish fortress. Heredia’s colonial architecture is quite well preserved. Since Heredia is located practically in the center of Costa Rica, all of the country’s natural wonders are easily accessible to inhabitants of that city. There is train service between Heredia and San Josè (Costa Rica’s capital) and there are plenty of buses, for those who do not wish to drive on the windy mountain roads.

It can be challenging to find your way around Heredia at first. Most of the homes and businesses do not have street numbers, so directions are given using landmarks. Once you are familiar with the city and its landmarks you will have no trouble finding your way around. The people are friendly and always ready to lend a helping hand. Heredia does get an influx of some 12,000 students (many of hem foreigners) to its National University every year, so there are plenty of people who will be asking for directions. Of course you can purchase a Heredia map which will provide an overview of all of the roads, and point out all of the government buildings and the landmarks.
